Running a madrassa on your own

If you teach online, teach from home or run a small madrassa by yourself, you usually do two jobs: setting everything up as the administrator and teaching the students. Makatib.App lets you do both with one login. You do not need to invite yourself as a teacher using another email address.

Your two workspaces stay separate so each job remains focused. Use Admin to manage the madrassa, then switch to Teaching when it is time to take a register, record progress, assign tasks or message parents.

1. Create your classes first

Before setting yourself up as a teacher, go to Admin → Structure and create every class you teach. The Teaching workspace is based on class assignments, so at least one class must exist before you can enable it.

If you teach all your students together, one class is enough. Give it a name that will be clear in registers and reports, such as Online Qaida, Home Class or Evening Hifz.

2. Enable “I also teach”

  1. Open Admin → Settings.
  2. Find the I also teach section.
  3. Check your name and teaching details. Your account email is shown but cannot be changed here because the same email is used for your admin login.
  4. Under Assigned classes, tick every class you personally teach.
  5. Select Enable Teaching workspace.

That creates your teaching profile immediately. No invitation email is sent and there is no second password to remember. Your name also appears in the teacher roster as Admin · Teacher.

3. Switch to the Teaching workspace

Once the setup has been saved:

  • On a computer: click your name beneath the logo in the admin sidebar, then select Switch to Teaching.
  • On a phone: open More → My account, then select Switch to Teaching.

You will arrive on the teacher dashboard. Only the classes you ticked during setup appear there. If the switch does not appear immediately after saving, refresh the page once and open My account again.

4. Teach as normal

In the Teaching workspace you can use the same tools as any invited teacher:

  • take and correct the register for your assigned classes;
  • record Qaida, Nazra, Hifz and subject progress;
  • assign tasks and mark them complete;
  • open student records; and
  • message linked parents or send a class message.

Everything you record is attributed to your one account, so reports show clearly who took the register or logged progress. Your full admin permissions remain available in the Admin workspace, but the Teaching workspace stays limited to your assigned classes.

5. Return to Admin

Open My profile from the teacher sidebar or mobile navigation and select Switch to Admin. You return to the admin overview without signing out or entering another password.

6. Change classes or stop teaching

Return to Admin → Settings → I also teach whenever your teaching responsibilities change. Tick or untick classes and select Save teaching setup to replace your current assignments.

If you no longer teach, select Disable teaching and confirm. This removes your current class access but does not deactivate your admin account or delete historic registers, progress, tasks or messages. To teach again later, return to the same section, choose your classes and enable the workspace again.
